Which is Right for You: Psilocybin or LSD?

Updated: Sep 19, 2024

During a recent conversation with Michou Olivera, an intriguing idea surfaced about the distinct roles psilocybin and LSD might play in healing.

Each substance appears to target different emotional and energetic centers which may illuminate their proper roles in healing/healthcare. As Michou explained, psilocybin works from the root to the heart chakra, helping with trauma and shadow work, while LSD acts as the "advanced course," focusing on creativity, social flow, and targeting the heart through the crown chakras.

We were intrigued by this comparison, as it was new to us, so we did some research.

Studies show that psilocybin calms the brain’s default mode network (DMN), facilitating deep emotional healing. Johns Hopkins research highlights its potential in treating depression, PTSD, and end-of-life anxiety. This connection to the "root chakra" makes sense, as psilocybin helps users reconnect with their emotional core.

LSD, on the other hand, is known for boosting neuroplasticity—ideal for those who’ve hit a plateau with psilocybin or need help articulating their experiences. Research from Imperial College London suggests LSD enhances mental flexibility and relieves chronic pain, which may explain its association with creativity and the head and heart chakras.

While the distinction between the two remains open to interpretation, we feel confident in saying both offer unique benefits: psilocybin for trauma healing, and LSD for cognitive expansion and creativity.

With such seemingly distinct roles, this raises the question: could this progression— psilocybin to LSD—be a viable path in alternative mental health treatments, or does it risk fostering dependence on external substances?

Could there be a place in the mental healthcare for the use of both and what repercussions would come of it? We’d love to hear your insights and if you've experienced this particular progression.

For us, there's no 'clear' or 'right' answer, only discovery....
